Lindberg Sd.Kfz 7/1 Halftrack

At a loose end I was looking for something to keep my hands busy so I decided to have a crack at one of those Home Bargains £1.99 Lindberg kits. I was well aware from the packaging that it was a re-box of the Hasegawa kit from 1973 which I had built before and I knew the problems with it. This was one of Hasegawa's early military kits, I'm not sure if it scales out at 1/72, the shape of the radiator grille is too wide, and the tracks are horrible.

I tried to modify the grille with three razor saw cuts and then gluing it all back together, other ways around that would have been to cover it over with a cold weather cover or to add some armour plating. The tracks were disguised with Bicarbonate of Soda and white glue as snow. The guns were replaced with brass wire, the muzzles are still to large but about as fiddly as I can do.

It's mounted on an old DVD covered with a thin layer of DAS and more Bicarbonate of Soda. I think the figure stated life as one of the Firemen from the Airfix Emergency Set with other bits added.

Makes me feel cold just looking at it! Very nicely done!
Best wishes

Very nicely done, that scene looks colder than a cold thing in a deep freezer! I have the Hasegawa boxing of this half-track in my stash and the tracks do indeed look horrible - that is a great way of disguising them.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Good looking terrain -- I like the numerous tracks all filled with snow !

Thanks for the compliments. The model could do with some ammo boxes, tarpaulins and extra figures to busy it up but it is what it is. A while back I was clearing up and I found some scrap CD's and DVD' s, rather than throw them out I stuck a few together, plugged the centre hole and covered them with a thin layer of DAS modelling clay. I think they are an ideal base for small models.

Well done. Very clever to hide the kit's shortcomings and produce a cool diorama in the process 8-)
