Fujimi/Nitto 1/76 M4A1 Sherman II

Post by ntrocket88 »

This is an old kit originally produced by Nitto before being taken over by Fujimi in the late 1980's. I replaced the lower hull sides and VVSS units with ones taken from an Airfix Sherman, using the Airfix tracks as well. This corrected Nitto's 'too small bogies/too tall VVSS units' problem as well as providing tracks that, while still not good, are at least better than the Nitto originals... I scratched the appliqué plates on the upper hull sides, turret RHS and in front of the driver/co-driver positions. I also reshaped the upper hull rear curve slightly and reshaped the hull front upper transmission cover. The finish is US Olive Drab, but is shown in British service in NW Europe.

It's good to see one of your builds on here again Neil and as always it's a great one and very nicely photographed. You really do know how to get the best out of these small scale kits.

Edit: 12/23/16 6:00 PM : I am an idiot. Just reread your question... Yes, they were all US Olive Drab unless they were repainted in British colors.

Very nice. Kudos on the way you've spruced up such an unpromising kit 8-)

Wow, many thanks for all the very kind comments. Much appreciated as always.

The kits also came with a Jeep, which I converted to British format (added bridging weight limit sign over one headlamp and a blackout cover over the other) and added a Jeep crew from SHQ. I also added the pioneer tools next to the driver and a rolled up tilt at the back.

Both are very eye-catching! I had only tried one nitto and that was jagdpather which was, simply said, simple but horrible which translates into circular bin. Yours took quite a bit of work but result is superb!
