Tamiya 1/35 Panther ausf A
Tamiya 1/35 Panther ausf A
This kit has been described as Tamiyas most inaccurate kit ever. I think it may even be their first tank kit.
Having said all that, it was cheap, as was the photoetch and I enjoyed building it.
The etched zimmerit was a bit of a pain, but doesn't look too bad under a coat of paint.
It was painted using Tamiya acrylics and weathered with Humbrol enamel washes, oil paint washes, pastels and mig weathering powders, which I finally broke out and bought.

Excellent job Paddy; without raking over the old accuracy over quality debate again, it looks like a Panther and the quality of the kit and the building of it stands out a mile. The weathering also is spot on to me
Best wishes
Jim

I chuckled at the kill rings on gun barrel, something usually seen on anti-aircraft guns. Really like the model, though. You've done a fine job of it.

Excellent work! The Zimmerit really looks the part and your weathering is just right.

Very nice looking Panther tank Paddy. This was my first 1/35th Tamiya kit, got it given to me as a birthday present. I'd never had, or seen a kit that large before, and it was motorised, probably a very early issue of the kit. It set me off buying loads of other Tamiya 35th scale tank and armour kits. Still have the Panther somewhere. They are great fun to build, and I must do another soon

I think you are correct Paddy in that this is Tamiya's first AFV kit. I'm a real enthusiast for these old Tamiya armour kits and with a bit of TLC they can be made into great looking models. I'm not 100% sure where the inaccuracies are in this kit but it looks like an ausf A to me. As always with your builds, this is a masterful job.

Outstanding paintwork and weathering
While it's not Tamiya's best kit there are far worse out there. It's rather like saying you don't own the best Rolls Royce. It's still a Rolls Royce

Now that I like. As others have said forget the accuracy you've done an excellent job. It looks very convincing.
