Tamiya 1/35 Special Air Service Jeep. (35033)

This is the last of them in my stash and although not bring the best as it is quite an old mould it was still an enjoyable build.

Another outstanding Jeep build Mark. This is what I picture as the classic SAS vehicle, bristling with Vickers "K" guns and in this case that whopping Browning .50 cal (although hard-hitting I bet the weapon was a handful in the close confines of the Jeep and I think I've seen variations using a .30 cal or additional Vickers guns for the passenger), together with as many jerrycans as could be crammed on board and crewed by tough looking bearded gentlemen wearing Arab head dress. Great stuff.

An old mould it may be, but that looks fantastic!

Could you please tell me how you put the sand in the tyres? I have one at the painting stage.

Sure Dai.
I use Mig/Vellejo sand pigments.
Once the tyre is painted in a suitable colour and then mounted onto a cocktail stick or similar (for holding purposes).
I get about 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of the pigment and I mix 4 drops of water in with it so it creates a watery paste to this I also add a drop of dish soap/liquid soap as it helps with breaking the surface tension of the water which makes the application of the paste easier.
I apply this paste with an old brush and push the mixture into the tread of the tires.
With my finger I wipe any excess paste away from the tyre where I don't require it whilst the mixture is still wet.
Once dry I then lightly brush away the pigment again from the places that are not required and then finally I lightly dry brush around the tyre and over the tread with some tyre coloured paint to blend the pigment in a tad.

Hope this is useful to you Dai
Regards
Mark

Another magnificent Jeep!

The mud paste method works for 1/76 (or 1/72 if you really have to..) tires as well...
