IBG Models out of Poland has been releasing some unusual armor subjects in 1/72 scale. They also fill some holes in the small scale plastic armor as well. The first part of this quartet is a 40M Turan I from the 1st Hungarian Cavalry Division in spring 1944. The Turan was designed to fix the problem of existing Toldi light tanks being unable to compete with Soviet designs. Unfortunately, the Turan I medium tank was still under-armed when compared to the T-34/76 and Pzkfw IVs when introduced. It was armed with a 40mm gun and the others had 75/76mms.

Nice to see some less well known armour subjects around. Your build looks really neat and the kit looks to jabs some nice detail

Very nicely done, Chuck. It's great to see this less than common subject built -I'm only vaguely familiar with Hungarian armour from the period.

My second Hungarian medium is the 41M Turan II from the 3rd Tank Regiment in Hungary, 1945. Having a similar plan as the British with a Close Support tank (Howitzer instead of 2pdr) accompanying their gun tanks or the original German plan of using the howitzer armed PzKpfw IV to support 37mm armed PzKpfw IIIs, the Hungarians replaced the 40mm on the Turan I with a 75mm howitzer and modified the turret roof for gun depression.

Medium #3 is an assault gun version of the Turan which was armed with 105mm howitzer that turned out to be very effective against Soviet tanks.

Great looking builds

The final member of this Hungarian quartet is the Hungarian 44M Zrinyi I Gun Howitzer prototype, first half of 1944. The Zrinyi I introduced a long 75mm gun that in effect made it comparable to the Sturmgeschütz IV and a potent tank destroyer.

It's the first time I've seen any of these vehicles above 1/300th scale - they're not just a lot nicer, they're little works of art! Well done for choosing such interesting subjects too. The Zrinyis made a name for themselves in the heavy streetfighting in Budapest, apparently. Top modelling.

Very fine work on some tanks I have never seen before. You dry brushing really brings out the details.
