Hi James, I spoke with Reg Spittals a few years ago before he died, and he showed me pictures of the 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry on the firing ranges at Castlemartin in December 1942. He told me the tanks were two-tone green, and this is my interpretation of those colours. Mike Starmer thinks any decision is tricky and really a best guess based on date. The Crusaders might still be in plain Khaki Green No.3 or if newer, late 1941 production SCC.2 brown. However on one tank in background he thinks there is a disruptive colour too, quite dark that may be Dark Tarmac which given its use will be over Khaki Green. I stuck with Reg's memory, so it may be wrong, but I think it looks different to the usual schemes.

That's a good looking Crusader, Ratch. Differences of opinion regarding accurate colour schemes will no doubt continue as long as the hobby does. The effects of weathering, differences in batches of paint or the way the said paint has been mixed, can lead to vehicles in the same regiment all looking different even though they are supposedly painted in the same shade. Reg's recollection and your estimate based on that is probably close enough.

Nice work, what did you think of the kit, I bid on a couple on eBay but wasn’t successful, it’s a kit that I didn’t realise Airfix did until quite recently so would appreciate your comments.

Regards Splash

Nice kit to build, but the tracks were dreadful on this one. I built another some years ago that weren't as bad. There's some dispute over the scale, but the parts went together well 8-)
Thanks for the comments guys
