Fujimi 1/76 Tiger 1 Late Version
The Tiger 1 is still my favorite tank. This is a comparatively recent kit from Fujimi and is a true delight to build. The detailing is excellent and they seem to have corrected the dimensional errors of their Nitto early version Tiger 1. The tracks are L&L and fiddly to build, but well worth it for the superb detail and realism. All I added was the Zimmerit finish and Bison decals for sSS Pz.Abt. 101 in Normandy, June 1944.
The kit has been issued in several guises numbered 76040, 76045, 76051 & 76055. All have the same parts, just different decal sheets.

While not being interested in AFVs per se, I do appreciate a good model of whatever subject. This one is really impressive – you'd be hard pressed to guess that the scale is smaller than 1:48 or even 1:35!

Yet another beauty, well finished and photographed. Zimmerit in 1/76th, did you use a microscope? I've only done Zimmerit once and that was on the Tamiya late model Tiger I in 1/35th. Keep 'em coming!

Terrific work mate, like Spitefire said, you could be forgiven for thinking it was 1/35, excellent photography too.

Thanks Alan. I used a Dremel rotary tool with a small engraving bit and cut the Zimmerit pattern into the plastic.Alanmccoubrey wrote:Neil, That Zimmerit is the best I've seen, how did you do it ?

A Dremel?!? wow, that's a new way of doing Zimmerit to me and I must say you've managed excellent results. I used Squadron putty and a tool made out of plastic card to create the ridges on my Tamiya Tiger. Took me bloody ages!!

Re: Fujimi 1/76 Tiger 1 Late Version
Thanks again for the kind comment Bernard.
I have used the putty/screwdriver method on 1/35 with some success. However, on 1/76 I have tried putty/screwdriver, glue and screwdriver, glue and knife and hot screwdriver methods and, though I have seen great results with these methods by others, I failed (repeatedly) to get the result I wanted. This was my second attempt with the Dremel and I was finally happy with the result!ShaunW wrote:A Dremel?!? wow, that's a new way of doing Zimmerit to me and I must say you've managed excellent results. Some fantastic model building there. Very very nice.
