Thanks very much John, appreciate your work.

I see the swarm is gathering, so welcome aboard this "Insect/bug" themed Group build, no repellent required..

Please setup your own build threads, kick back at the bench and enjoy a bit of building, remember this is a shared process, we are eager to see your how you build and any issues you have, plenty of helpful folks here, so post often with plenty of pictures, of course bug jokes will engender more respect, accolades and the adoration of the opposite sex..... :lol:

Cheers

Now for a bit of controversy, dose the Spitfire count as there is a “Spitfire sawfly” that lives in Australia?

Here is the link to the wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spitfire_sawfly;

I will not be upset in the slightest if you say no :lol: .

Guys, I have a Revell 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf110D in Wespe (Wasp) markings (which is why I bought it - lovely big wasp decal on the front) - is this allowed or too much of a stretch on the insect name theme? I've got other contenders for the GB up my sleeve if this one is out, but I'd really like to build this one.

Cheers

Hi guys,

We've had a chat, and decided Bond Bug would be in, and as Brews said, there was a discussion in the original thread that Spiders were in..

But "Spitfire Sawfly" and the 110 with Wespe markings are really stretching it a bit and are not in, looking forward to what you do pick Al and Splash.

Cheers

OK...feeling really bad about this (no, not really but being really nosey) I've done some more research into the naming of the Spitfire to determine if the name was drawn from some knowledge of the Australian Spitfire caterpillar which turns into the Mottled Cup Moth (not known to be an aircraft made by any branch of De Havilland). This appeared a reasonable suggest due to the painful spitting action of this caterpillar being possibly close to the effect desired of the Spitfire upon the bad guys. As near as 15 minutes of googling can tell me, the Spitfire was named after a lively young lady and nothing within the bug world...

"Annie Penrose, who died aged 100, gave her childhood nickname “ "Little Spitfire" “ to the world's most celebrated fighter aircraft. Her father, Sir Robert McLean, played a crucial role in the development of the Spitfire as chairman of Vickers (Aviation) in the 1930s, working closely with the gifted design engineer RJ Mitchell. When it came to giving the new single-seater fighter a name, McLean suggested Spitfire, the affectionate term he used for his spirited elder daughter. Initially the Air Ministry had reservations about the name, as did Mitchell, who argued for calling the new aircraft the Shrew; but in the end McLean prevailed.

So I have learned something today...and that is that it is probably a good thing that RJ Mitchell didn't always get his own way...

Hi Guys, good call on the Spitfire, it was a long shot and there was no harm in trying :-D.

What about the Nightkawk, will you accept that, as there is a night kawk moth?

Couldn't find any refs to a Nightkawk but if you are referring to the F-117 Nighthawk, that was named after the bird '...a nocturnal bird of the subfamily Chordeilinae, within the nightjar family, Caprimulgidae...' as opposed to the night hawk moth, so I'd be a 'no' on this one as well...on the silver lining side, I am expecting to ace the natural history section of this week's pub trivia quiz so keep those questions coming...
