Martin R's DD Mossie

Post by Martin R »

Just starting a thread for my Airfix Dogfight Double Mossie build thread. This is for a Box Art display at Telford, so it'll be built wheels up and props 'blurred'. At least that's the idea . . .

Pics of box art and sprues to follow.

regards,

Martin

Folks,

Sorry about my ongoing non-participation. Things haven't been going exactly well at work recently and I have lacked the motivation to do any modelling. That said, things may be looking up: I did manage to join the nacelle halves and tailplane halves together last night!

Martin

Sorry to hear about that Martin. You have my sympathy, I had a really uber cack start to the working week, one of my worst in years, although it did get better towards the end. This weekend though, hedge trimming and other garden duties (which I've been dodging as best as I could for the last month or so  ) have started to take over so I probably won't get a lot of modelling done. Real life eh? gets in the way at times!

You have my sympathy too Martin. I know what you mean, I'm going straight from teaching one evening course, to teaching another evening course without any break at all (even this weekend, which is a long weekend for Canada Day). At the moment I should be writing lecture notes on the work done by variable forces.

Anyway, at least you've got some plastic stuck together now.!

cheers

Folks,

Many thanks for your comments. Hopefully the work situation will resolve itself in the near-ish future.

I have got the undercarriage doors on the Mossie's nacelles now which is at least progress. However, I'm not looking forward to the next job of 'scratching' a cockpit. Although maybe I won't have to do terribly much as the crew will be hiding most of the interior.

Straw poll time: the Mossie is shown with RPs on the DD artwork. However, I'm pretty sure EG-T would have had bombs instead - and indeed that is how the new instructions for the DD kit suggest it be built. What do you think I should do for the actual display?

Jim,

Thanks for the prop blurs.

regards,

Martin

If you are reproducing the box art, then the RPs, I'd say.

The dio is supposed to reflect the box art so I'd say go with the RP's.

Thanks chaps, RPs it is!

Apologies for my near-absence on this GB. I am dropping in on other builds and there's some good stuff going on. My modelling malaise continues but I did grab an hour at the work bench last night and I got the wings together. So, I thinned out the radiator doors, added a back to the radiators inside, painted everything and stuck it all together . . . oh yes, I also remembered to drill out the holes for the RP mounts!

Dry-fitting the nacelles shows a good-ish fit, so they'll go on next.

After that is the fuselage: I need to scratch some sort of cockpit interior (although as I'm adding crew, not that much), also gashing up a mounting for the stand and adding the tailwheel. If I feel super-motivated (hmmmm) I may even make a start this evening . . .

No pics yet, but I'll see if there's something worth showing soon.

Martin

Ha I just clicked, the box art is a Swallow chasing a Mosquito, very apt for a bug build...

If you're using the kit canopy Martin, I don't think you can see anything through it.... maybe just something on a parcel shelf.

Might have to send the Rons' around for some, ahem, motivation...

You're welcome Martin, hope the dust in the Klear coat isn't too obvious, something I've struggled with.

Looking forward to seeing them on.. nudge.. nudge...
