On investigating the Mossie represented in the DD boxing, this was EG-T, MM417, of 487Sqn in early 1944. Looking on ATF, the DD set instructions now would advise you to use the underwing bombs and the correct low-fuselage demarkation between upper and lower camouflage patterns. Also, the spinners were Ocean Grey.

However, I'm going with the original artwork, which has the aircraft fitted out with RPs, MSG spinners and a mid-fuselage demarkation line . . . but it feels wrong knowingly finishing it in an incorrect scheme (as opposed to unknowingly doing the wrong thing, which happens to me quite a lot!)

Martin

OK, that's where we are as of now. A few coats of Dark Green this evening and the camo will be finished:

And with one of Jim's prop blurs finished and blu-tak ed in place.

Got 2 coats of xtracrylix dark green on this evening. One more tomorrow and that's the camo done. I then need to de-mask and detach the nosecone (white glued on), fit the machine guns and stick it back on.

I then really must do a bit of work on the crew and radios . . .

Only kidding. It's coming on well and Jim's prop blurs will set it off nicely, he does a good job of those.

Finish off the second prop-blur tonight, then see what else I can get done (radios, crews, add machine guns, . . . . )

Back from the pub now... :) I think you have a reduced audience due to the Olympics.
A sterling performance by the GB Men's gymnasts today.

That Mossie looks good Martin. Gold Medal prospect!

cheers

Thanks, chaps!

Finished both spinners and the prop blurs are both blu-tak ed in place. The exhaust covers are on and painted, and the aircraft is "flying" on its stand.

Tomorrow, I may put on some decals or I may finally get round to crew and cockpit interior (but don't hold your breath).

It won't be finished, but it is closer than I expected a week ago!

Martin

Thanks, everybody.

Well, photos below show how far I got by the official end of the GB, although I will continue to post until the thread is closed. Given my late start, I'm reasonably happy to have got this far.

Most of the decals are now on apart from the serial, exhaust covers are on and prop blurs are blu-tak ed in place:

Pilot and navigator - only the second time I've painted figures and I'm quite pleased. They were primed with matt white, then xtracrylix colours were brush painted on. The semi-transparent nature of these paints gave a pleasingly non-uniform finish to the different blocks of colour. Finally, I put on a very thin wash of dark brown / smoke, which lifted out some of the moulded on detail.

Great little figures. Quality moulding certainly helps, but you should include more of these with your models.
