Chip's Little Bug***Squished***

Post by Molly-new »

I will be testing my building skills, and patience, on this 1/72 Sherman Firefly, from Extra-Tech (?) a Czech Republic manufacturer apparently.

Image

Sprues consist of Hull, Turret and Roadwheels:

Image

Idlers and suspension units: (Doh)

Image

Tracks: (Double Doh)

Image

I wish I had gone for a 1/35 scale now.

Decals are provided for 4 variants, Czech, Polish, Dutch, and 23rd Hussars which I will probably be doing.

Image

The eagle eyed may notice the plethora of PE and Resin Parts supplied. ;-)

I will not be able to start this till the 18th due to other commitments, but will make a start on it ASAP.

That's a serious parts count for a 1/72 scale kit. It looks like my 1/48 Tamiya Firefly has fewer parts. I'll try and post some shots today.
Let's hope the tracks don't become a bug-bear.

Finally got some time to myself for modelling tonight, so decided to put the hull together. "Shouldn't take long" I thought.

So, first up, the boggies. Only 8 parts to each one. 8 parts

This should be fun, see you all in a fortnight. :-D

That is one serious little kit, there must be more parts in the bogies than in the whole of the Airfix Sherman, look forward to following your build.

Eight part bogies in 1/72. Yikes!
The Tamiya 1/48 bogie breaks down into five parts...
Good luck :)

And you can always "Blame it on the bogie" ... :ha:

Eight parts per bogie seems like a bit of overkill in the braille scale to me, a few Bogie Nights coming on then  This certainly looks like a proper serious little kit though, very much an example of 1/35th shrunk down to 1/72nd.

Spent most the weekend playing with my bogies.....

and ended up here:

Thankfully the plastic is quite malleable so removing all the seam lines wasn't too difficult.

This kit is quite nicely detailed, right down to the access panels on the underneath, just in case you want to display it on it's side I suppose. :ha:

That looks very good Chip, the level of detail looks really excellent. Those Czechs can certainly put out a decent kit.

I agree. I was a bit dubious at the start, but am quite impressed with the detail and how well it all fits together.

Today I have managed to put an undercoat on the main parts:

and spent a happy hour filing down the horns on the track links to get them to fit into the PE retaining strips:

I intend to get some colour on over the weekend.
