Thanks OT, the build certainly is shifting a bit and feels more like a blitz at times... :-D

I have painted the whole airframe today with various shades of olive drab for the top surfaces and medium grey for the under surfaces.

I will have to do a tad touch up and a little bit of filling around the canopy( The backrest needs it's sides trimming to enable the fuselage sides to close in to enable the canopy to fit correctly, found that out after a bit of digging on the net) which if I am honest is a bit of a let down with this kit but I know what to look for when I build the P-400.

Thanks Dirk :)

No Bruce that is the only issue I have found, though it's easy enough to correct if you already know about it beforehand which unfortunately I didn't...

Time to put the OD patches on the tail that will be behind the yellow serial numbers.
I actually thought about spraying some decal paper with OD and then cutting out the rectangles from it but that was too lazy so I did it the proper way.

Image

Image

Image

I just hope the serials will sit inside ok, they should do.

Last night I was getting more and more cheesed off with the crappy canopy fit that I just had to do something about it.

This is how it looked on the starboard side yesterday....

Image

Not very good, so I carefully filled the gaps in with some liquid putty and after it had dried completely I sanded it down with some micromesh cloths, it meant that I would take some of the paint away but I ended up with a better finish.
Time was getting on last night so after cleaning away the dust with a damp cloth I sprayed another coat of olive drab over the repair work....

Image

Except it wasn't olive drab I sprayed but interior green...Doh.

So whilst I was spraying the patches I sprayed the canopy with OD as well.

Image

Next to do will be to add the legs and then a coat of Klear, maybe today or tomorrow.

Thanks John but it's a common thing for me to do such things when I try and get things done late into the night. :-D

Ok I put the gear on last night along with the exhaust stubs.

Image

I knew from the start that I was going to leave the gun packs off until the white leading edge was masked off to ease spraying but in my haste I forgot to drill out the locating lugs for said packs.
Simple mistake to fix but one I should not have made.

The radiator cooling slats were attached..

Image

The prop was finished off...

Image

Then gave the whole model a coat of Klear.

So I took a couple of photos with it on it's legs and with the prop attached and I am pretty well pleased with how it looks so far.

Image

Image

So I think that will put me at about 70-75% completed.

All done Bruce as I said it was a simple error to fix, I just cut off the locating lugs on the gun packs and estimated the position which was a breeze as the fit of the parts was so good. I also added the 37mm gun barrel on the front of the spinner.

Image

I will add the 50's to the cowl when I drill out their respective ports.

I'm just jealous that you seem so at ease with an air brush and I am not ....

I won't tell you then it was all done with just a cheap double action airbrush costing £5.00 inc P+P off Ebay.
Just goes to show that you really don't need to pay out big bucks for a half decent airbrush, that said I have never used an expensive airbrush to be able to compare results with so I guess I don't know what I am missing.

Ok I have drilled out and inserted the two 50's into their ports, the main decals have been applied and I will try to get the stencils on the wings before the England game tonight if not then I will try tomorrow.

Image

Image

That brings me to 85% completed.

Things left to do....
Another coat of Klear.
Paint nav lights etc.
Light weathering and chipping etc.
A coat of matt varnish.
Attach the pitot tube.
Attach the aerial post and wire.
Attach the doors.
I think that is all.

Thanks guys, well I have finished it and have put a couple of pictures in the 'completed' Gallery.

Here is another...

Image

Overall a very nice kit to build with only a slight canopy fit issue which can easily be overcome with a little sanding here and there.
A few little mistakes by me which again were no biggies but I will keep the interior green away from any olive drab next time when the final spraying happens as I could correct the canopy frame but not the doors....
I do like this kit though so much so I have bought another Weekend edition kit this time it is a P-400.
Thanks all for looking in and good luck with your builds.
