True but for what it is (Comic Book character) I can live with it. Besides maybe some weathering and a wash will tone it down some more. ;-)

Oh, I agree - Brews remark about the comic appearance was dead on and I think in this instance it'll look neat ... my comment was more for the general case.

I can't argue. you guys are spot on. This reminds me of the movie "Richard Tracy" with Warren Beatty. The movie was made after a comic strip character and even though it was live action not animated it still looked like a comic strip. Even though this is a 3D representation of a 2D comic it still looks like a comic.

I have the "Oddball Spitfire" set (well I would, wouldn't I ? :ha: ) and they are very nicely done.

I'm still eyeing that set. I really want to do the Red White and Blue nose Spitfire you did a few years ago.

Ok, I'm getting tired and I need to separate myself from this all red aircraft for a while so its time to look at the base.

Here is what i got.

A wood base that I stained about a year ago

Image

and some custom and less expensive snow from my local railroad shop.

Image

I started by pre-ping the base with some tape to make a boarder

Image

Adding some glue

Image

Image

Once the glue was applied I used a sifter and sprinkled the base with the snowy powder. I then made a mix of Elmers glue and water and placed the mixture into a spray bottle. Then sprayed the top of the base

Just about 9 hours to go

Here we go for the final push... Decals!!!

I made up an extra set of decals the other night just in case the red of the aircraft bled through the decal

Image

I have to say I'm very happy with the final result. Only one decal needed. And before any one says anything about the decals being out of register they aren't. The skulls were roughly painted on in the field under unfavorable conditions. It's not meant to be perfect like a factory applied identification marker. ;-)

Well that's about it my friends. I finished with about 7 1/2 hours left on the clock. The base should be dry by then and I'll take it out for some glamour shots. If I decide to do any further weathering it'll be at a later time. Till then here is one last parting shot for the evening

Awesome. This must be one of my favourite builds on this site. Nice one.

All the best.

Absolutely great, a very different idea, well executed and you even found time to make a decent display base. All with over 7 hours left. I'm impressed!
