Re: OT does a "Flitzer" ***Defeated by life***
Thanks team, just got in from work & it is good to see how many people were watching. This truely is a great forum with a family feel. I was pretty close to finishing and will get you a picture of where I got to before the Bat phone went. I am amazed they did not call me yesterday - they should have.
I wonder if anyone has ever evaluated the health risks of a Blitzbau? Lack of sleep & plenty of crap food - although no booze this time.
I will try to get the Flitzer completed this weekend although I have a stag night to go to starting tomorrow lunchtime! I am not convinced that I would of finished within the 2 hours I had left anyway.
Actually I have not eaten since this morning and am still feeling fine.jRatz wrote:Sorry about that O-T, valiant effort regardless ...

Health risks? It is these events that keeps us moving. Or else it would be, Oh hummm, MASH re-runs.

This is as far as I got with 2 hours to go.
I don't think it would have been finished.
remaining work.
Finish masking - 30 mins
Spray green with rattle ca & let dry - 45 mins
Unmask 10 mins
Klear coat & dry - 20 mins
Decals - 20 mins
Klear coat & dry - 20 mins
Matt coat & dry - 20 mins
That is more like 3 hours assuming no mistakes. Should have done it silver.
I may try another subject before the month is over.

Can I ask why you seal decals with klear first, and then matt?Old_Tonto wrote: Klear coat & dry - 20 mins

Anyway, you weren't that far off. I'm looking forward to see it finished.

I was wondering the same.Prisca wrote:Can I ask why you seal decals with klear first, and then matt?Old_Tonto wrote: Klear coat & dry - 20 mins

Looking at that schedule, would it really have taken you 30 minutes to finish masking and 10 whole minutes to unmask?
15 minutes, I reckon.
Losing that second Klear coat and Dry would've saved you another 20 mins.
2 hours 45 is quite less than 3 hours.
Reviewing your timings, I bet you could've done your remaining tasks in the 2 remaining hours.

Bruce

I always apply a coat of klear to pull the decals down, it stops them silvering. Then the matt coat because the klear makes the finish too glossy. I guess I might be able to miss that stage out for a blitzbau.Prisca wrote:Can I ask why you seal decals with klear first, and then matt?Old_Tonto wrote: Klear coat & dry - 20 mins

You may be correct Merlin. I will try to find a couple of hours tomorrow to see if I can do it.MerlinJones wrote:I was wondering the same.Prisca wrote:Can I ask why you seal decals with klear first, and then matt?Old_Tonto wrote: Klear coat & dry - 20 mins

Missed this due to having been camping at the coast. You did well up to where you stopped. I did plan to build one of these for the Luft'46 GB but Modelzone didn't have any when I went for one so I ended up with a Ho-229 instead. But seeing yours has re-ignited my interest in the kit.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....
