lancfan's Airfix 1/76 Chi Ha BLITZ * FINISHED *

Post by lancfan »

My hat trick Blitz- the Airfix 1/76 scale Japanese Chi Ha tank for next sunday 26/08/2012. Like the other two it will begin at midnight as this seems to work best for me as I would rather be forced to stop early to let paint and glue dry rather than have this happen at the end of both the day and my 24 hours.

Hi David.
Got to admit I don't think I've ever seen this built before. Looking forward to this one.

All the best.

Japanese tanks are thin on the ground but this kit can be converted into other versions of this AFV and the same suspension units were used on a tankette so it is a useful kit. I have not built this one before myself so time will tell what happens.

Sorry about that Brews, sunday is the best day for me and the midnight start means that whatever happens I finish at midnight and can go to bed ready for the world to again start up the morning after. It also means that if I hit a build stopping problem early i can just go have a nap whilst the glue dries without losing most of the day as waiting time.

The workbench has been tidied away and readied for the hat trick Blitz. The parts have been washed and placed in the worktray on the left and the same timekeepers have been invited back for this build following the magnificent job they did last time.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Less than two hours to go before I start on my third blitz and I have stopped work for today on my current tracky thing, a Churchill ARV conversion. Time for a quick brew and view before the start.

Running a little late and work will start at 00.30 with wheel painting and track assembly and painting. After this the hull will be assembled. Pictures will follow later.

Two hours into the build, the actual plastic parts are a dream to put together, the hull is made up of 8 parts and the turret has just 6. the tracks were a bit of a pain, the new material that Airfix insist on using today isn't the easiest stuff to glue together and stubbornly resisted cyano. They really need to use something that can be stuck together with normal cement. Here the hull is finished and the wheels have been painted, the tyres are next and will then be ready for final assembly when the hull has been painted which is the next job.

The hull is now painted, the turret will be next with the suspension being assembled as the turret paint dries.
had I known how simple this kit is I would have started the build during the day.

That's a great start. Should have it completed by lunch!
