Oh...he's up!
Very good progress there. I didn't see any canopy masking, did you do it freehand?
Regards,
Bruce

Re: TimJ's Gustav *started*
I did do the canopy freehand which isn't easy on a 109. I'm sure the Lufwaffe had lots of aircraft with heavily framed canopies just to make it awkward for the modeller.
The stripes have been painted on the fin/rudder and I couldn't resist putting the underwing decals on.
I'm still trying to find out for certain whether the tailplanes should have the red or green stripe on the outside.

Red at the extremities seems to be the most popular on-line option.

That is looking cool I might just have to track one down.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: TimJ's Gustav *started*
Having done some more research I found some colour photos showing green extremities so that's what I've gone for.
Not much to do now, just Klear, decals and a bit of touching up.

I should have said green extremities to the tailplanes.MerlinJones wrote:...Apart from the fin!

It does look very good !
I know nothing on the subject, but I would have thought the stripes would be consistent on all 3 .... oh, well, as I said, I know nothing ...

That's what I would have thought too but it seems not.jRatz wrote:I would have thought the stripes would be consistent on all 3 .
I have been slightly delayed today by having to get my Sunday lunch ready, it was worth it though, very tasty.
Decals are on, the paintwork has been touched up where necessary so I'm calling this one finished.
It took longer than expected but it did involve several colours (including 4 coats of yellow!) and painting the stripy tail took a bit of time too. I could probably have finished the German option a lot quicker but it makes a change to have a 109 that isn't a Luftwaffe example and the tail adds some colour to an otherwise drab colour scheme.
I'll take some shots for the gallery later.

Re: TimJ's Gustav **Finished**
There was also the delay due to colour indecision!
That said, you've completed a great Blitzbau with a competent model.
Reagrds,
Bruce

Yes, I reckon I'd have finished a couple of hours earlier if it hadn't been for that.MerlinJones wrote:There was also the delay due to colour indecision!
