Re: Flakmonkey goes clubbing **DOORS OPEN**
There will be no black Spitfires ok? Now, the decal thing was just a flesh wound. I can salvage all the various fragments and put them together almost exactly as Airfix intended. Half of them don't fit the kit anyway. my clock isnt showing up due the light but for the record it said 14:34. Honest Guv.
The Tall Vegetarian Wife has spotted my previous post with the clubbing picture and has gone ballistic. That isn't to say she has launched herself on a pillar of fire through the roof into space. Well. Now I think about it, that's not a bad description. Woops. Never mind. Speaking of minds, this seems appropriate.

Good recovery, Flak! And looking good, even if it is silver.

Sorry Flack I have been at work and missed your build.
Its looking good, was this kit only issued as a club kit or did it go on general release?
Regards

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: Flakmonkey goes clubbing **DOORS OPEN**
It was only a Club members kit...although I seem to recall it later became available to non-members.

Antics Online were showing it in stock quite recently. You should be able to get one easily enough, although given that the decals are really its major selling point you would do better with any other Mk.XVI and some aftermarket decals. The ones in the kit are rubbish.splash wrote:was this kit only issued as a club kit or did it go on general release?
Rubbish or not they're going on, albeit as fragments. Decalling is taking probably twice as long as it should, partly due to the damaged sheet and partly due the quality of the decals. They conform to the model only very reluctantly with Mr.Mark Softer - the odd one or two that escaped damage are no different to the rest in this respect. They go down eventually but its a long process. Resisting the urge to introduce The Tall Vegetarian Wife into the post at this point, it's best to show a picture of what we have so far.
Most of the major decals on, the port upper wing roundel will need painting in. The decals are a poor fit, some being too large and some too small. They're very much like home made ones from an inkjet. The stencils, thankfully of which there are few on this '90s restored machine, are unlikely to be useable.
About 7 hours to run until the end of the GB. I think it's do-able.
Chill time

Funny thing about wives. During my bearcat Blitz, my wife came home from work and said to me, "Nice job so far. Was watching on line from work." Didn't know she knew how to do that.
Great recovery, Flak. Liking this one alot.

Re: Flakmonkey goes clubbing **DOORS OPEN**
The Mk.XVI has always been my least favourite Spitfire because the bulged cowl really upsets the lines of it, but in these colours I can forgive it. The original machine to wear these colours was an F.22. That would look nice. Job opportunity for decal people.lancfan wrote:The mark 16 looks brilliant in those colours
Finally all of the bits of decal have been fished from the water and applied. The port upper wing roundel was touched in freehand with a brush. I didn't quite match the colour it would appear. My bad. The red was also touched up, I didn't do too badly on matching that. Lifecolor satin clear applied all over, still drying underneath.
Canopies, exhausts and tailwheel make up the to-do list. I have a few tasks to attend to around here so I shall be back in a couple of hours to put this to bed.
This followed me home. Can we keep it?

Looking good but you'd better get a move on. Not long to go.
But there's still time to paint it black, you know.

My camera doesn't do green under tungsten lights. Ç'est la vie. I'm calling this done. I do this because it's done.
Would have been done much sooner but we had a few problems along the way. Thanks Dave.
Thanks for dropping in and my apologies for the poor performance of my insane family. I shall try to whip them into a frenzy in February.
In closing, I would like to thank Jessica Ennis. She reads this. Sadly Jess, you're not the best thing to come out of Sheffield. Sorry love. These are.
