Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
Quick update before working nights over the weekend. Managed to get some light olive painted on. Not completed yet and needs a second coat - but at least it's no longer totally anemic.
Don't know why I did the tail, as it's going to be black anyway.
Although I am taking my tool box with me, I won't take the Phantom as I already have a Catalina and three MiGs in my locker.

Haha yeah. I don't know why I bothered to paint the tails as they will be covered with decals anyways.Ian wrote:Don't know why I did the tail, as it's going to be black anyway.
It looks great Ian! Color is smooth.

Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
Thanks for the tip Bruce but unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Klear (or Future) is not available in Italy and I have yet to find a wax that behaves like it. Does the trick work with acrylic clear gloss? I'll try !MerlinJones wrote:Eugenio, if you dip your canopies in Klear beforehand, the Klear will usually protect the transparency from superglue fumes. However, if you use Zipkicker, or another setting agent, then even Klear might not be able to protect the glass from the fumes.
Ian did you brush paint your Phantom ? The colors look really thin and smooth !
Cheers,
Eugenio

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?
Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
I can't justify the cost of an airbrush and compressor to Mrs. Ian, so everything I paint is brushed on.Draken wrote:Ian did you brush paint your Phantom ?

Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
I think my all black with yellow stripes scheme is going to be an easier to paint than the colours you have picked.
The green is looking good.

Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
Still here, Dirk. Just a little sidelined with work and life. I have been (slowly) painting and here's the proof.
The anthracite needs another coat then I can start thinking about the metallic areas around the back end and painting the tail yellow.
Don't worry - it'll be done on time.

Re: Ian's Flying Tiger
That's a decent enough paint job Ian, once the anthracite is sorted it should look pretty good IMHO.

I see that you have a very useful colour paint guide to work from. Did it come with the kit or did you download it from somewhere?Ian wrote:
