Tamiya 1/700 E-Class destroyer HMS Eclipse

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Tamiya 1/700 E-Class destroyer HMS Eclipse

Post by Justin1980 »

And my third build, first attempt at the dreaded photo etch! What a learning experience. I also attempted a sea scape.

Well I hope you like it.

I also learnt unless the photo etch is cleaned, no matter how hard you try paint will NOT adhere to it. Woops! I think it looks more regal with the gold..................

Looking good. How did you make the water ????

Photoetch may be a royal pain in the rump but when it comes to ships it adds so much to the over all look of the model. The railings and other bits make it pop.

Thanks Dirk, I used acrylic sealant, and crumpled tin foil to create the wave effect. Waited 24hrs for it to dry, painted then sealed with lacquer. The bow wave and wake was created just using some cotton wool and white paint.

I've never heard of that method but to day is the only one I understand and think that I could actually do. Thanks for that information. Its going to be very useful someday.

Very nice model and evocative seascape! Possibly the foam along the sides looks a bit overstated, though.

Great work!

Thanks for the comments guys,

I have to admit the wake is over stated down the the sides. I intend to improve on the seascape and wakes for the next planned build.

Hi and welcome Justin. I like that! I always think that ships look better when modelled in a water scene!

I think the foam look fine, I think what is missing is the bow wave.

It's still a far better ship and seascape than I could have build, Well done.

Good work, Justin, and I agree on the wake comments -- it almost looks as if they just went full astern. Little more at the bow, less on the sides and you'll have it just right ....

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.
