Oil Tanker 'Glasgow'

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Oil Tanker 'Glasgow'

Post by Ratch »

The Oil Tanker “Glasgow” was a type T2-SE-A1, of which 476 were built. Designed by Esso in the 1930’s, despite the shipping losses of the Second World War some lasted over 40 years. The US Marine Commission adopted the design in 1936 to ensure a shortfall in tonnage was met. The “Esso Glasgow” plied her trade from the Esso refineries at Milford Haven and Fawley, around the coasts of Great Britain.

Pretty sexy lines, considering it was a wartime project. Until now, I have never seen one actually built and I like yours a lot.

Nice work Ratchet.

My late Father served on the Esso Glasgow as a Navigating Officer, now seeing your build I might have to move my stash copy up the build priority list.

Nice work, I like seeing some of the old ships ( especially as I have worked on a shipyard myself) !!!

The Glasgow turned out very nicely Ratch and the seascape really sets it off.

I saw this ship on the Tyne on a foul winter's day. I took a few photos on a pocket 110 cam, but they are as dark as the weather. This must have been just before she was sent for scrapping. She looked well used. I bought the model a little while later.
