1/350 USS Greeneville SSN772

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

1/350 USS Greeneville SSN772

Post by Marek »

Greetings All Submariners (or Mariners),
this is Hobbyboss 1/350 USS Greeneville without the underwater chamber for Navy Seals. Greeneville finally broke through the bad streak of events around 2011 and 2012 had a collision-free season (I think). I like the kit a lot, enough details and relatively quick to build. I hope you enjoy.

Nicely finished submarine. The bow planes don't look big enough for the size of the sub.

Hi Marek, Nice build! I like the WWII subs better though, more style and form... and a lot of holes to drill   I have RC'ed a type VII at 1/125 and I have the same type at 1/72, still in the box and that one I want to RC to make it dive and such... one of these days!

It's a nice build, "catch" the subject, well done.
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Thank you guys! Bow planes do not look big enough but I am sure Chinese Naval Intelligence has done the homework :). As for R/C versions, I always liked the idea, never took off with it though. I'll wait till my daughter hits tens and will probably start some kind of armada.

Looks like very nice construction and finish ! What are the odd markings around the periscope bases ?

For R/C subs, are you familiar with these folks ? http://www.subcommittee.com/; I have seen a number of their member models up in the Virginia Tidewater area .... The internals to allow diving, and resurfacing of course, are quite interesting.

I believe it was a form of disruptive camouflage. John.

It is disruptive camo, many of USN subs have them painted such since late 70ies. The Underwater Cow :)

Excellent and it's great to see your Greeneville finally completed Marek. I love the beautifully streamlined, yet sinister look of modern subs. Top work.

Great result Marek  reminds me I need to finish off the 1/350th subs that have been floating around for a few months.

Very menacing. Top work. What paint did you use for the propeller?

Toby,
I used the gold from tamiya. Not the best one to work with brush. Next time, I'll use gold or brass oil paints.
