Great model, and very practical idea too. Never seen or heard of these before. A welcome sight for any downed airman

Almost done now, the only things left to do are to make and fit the radio aerial, weather the model and then the build will be finished.

Re: Lancfan's DNF RAF Cuckoo rescue Float.
It was necessary to make a jig for the multi cabled aerial and with the jig complete I began by fitting the first cable (grey cotton) into the jig and then lued the five insulator rings in position onto the first cable, to represent these I used discs of clear plastic card cut from sheet using a hole punch, this was then left to dry. I next fitted the two cables either side of the insulators and again left this to dry when I fitted the final cable.
As I waited for the aerial to dry I weathered the model, firstly with a light grey wash to fade the colours and then followed this up with thinned brown applied with a rigger to represent rust stains. When the aerial was dry the ends were then tied together, fixed with glue and the aerial was fitted to the model. Finally I painted the edges of the insulators black to complete the aerial and finish the model.

Great work David, an excellent finish all round
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Nice work, good to see it done. Just for my limited info, did they let these things float freely or were they anchored or what?.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

That was interesting information, thanks. I know it seems obvious but I wanted to clear up the matter of fixed or floating freely. Should have known!.lancfan wrote:Thanks Nigel, iggie, Mark. They were each anchored at a fixed position Mark.
