1/600 Airfix HMS Amazon

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

1/600 Airfix HMS Amazon

Post by PTB11 »

Part of the Falklands Warship set. This is the first ship I've built in nearly 40 years.

Really, really nice!!

And the base is excellent as well; how was it made, painted etc.?
Best wishes

Jim

Thank you.

The base is simply polyfilla. The ripples are formed by tapping the wet plaster with the back of a spoon. The bow waves and the ones at midships were formed with a lolly pop stick and the wake was done with an old tooth brush.
It was painted with vallejo acrylics - Starting with a black base coat, then various shades of green, finishing off with the white highlights. It was all sealed with a couple of coats of Klear.

Very impressive model and display. I've got the Falklands set too and this is quite the inspiration to get going on it 8-)

That is really excellent Paddy. Is the model full hull or waterline? And as a matter of interest, is there no modelling subject that you aren't good at? :ha:

It was a full hull kit and to be honest, I cut a little too much off, but my sins are hidden by the waves!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

That's good. I think the Type 21s were really good looking ships. This one looks superb.
So many models, so little time.

Excellent. Love the base too. This is also my preferred way of creating water
