HMS Victory - Revell 1:225

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

HMS Victory - Revell 1:225

Post by chrism »

I have recently just finished this venerable old relic - which actually has 1959 stamped or embossed on the deck! I have left that marking on the deck and just built her as she comes OOB. (the ships boats that came in the box are not on this model - they have been used on my Airfix 1:180 one which is in the background in the case.

This model has been built admiralty style and purposely without all the upper rigging as it makes the model easier to transport, and also as the supplied masts and yards are so flimsy I find it hard to get them stable to "rig properly" as I like to do on classic ships.

Before I box this up for Telford, (for the Revell Sig table) I do just need to print off and add some flags.

Great pair of Nelsons flagships, but what a load of rigging,I dont do biplanes because my chubby fingers get in the way. These would drive me nuts.

Thanks for looking in and commenting folks.
The two kits both have their good and bad points. One has better ships boats, and infact the four with the Revell kit, fit nicely and accurately in the waist on the beams on the Airfix kit. Both kits are now showing their age and the flash and seams on them are a pain.
The Airfix one I went to town on, and used a lot of aftermarket etc; the Revell one is OOB with just a strip of evergreen in a couple places to patch it all together. There is no filler as such on either. The Revell one the majority of gunports moulded closed, and consequently the hull sides and port lids are a paint to paint and not get run through on when tape is applied, that said, there was still some run through with the Airfix one but it is moulded differently and did not suffer the same.

I missed this when first posted and have to say that is really fantastic work Chris with both models of this famous ship. You certainly know how to model these age of sail vessels!
