Hobby Boss French Submarine Surcouf 1/350
I decided to tackle this as a fill-in between GBs; I started it on Monday evening and finished it this afternoon (apart from it still needing a light dusting of matt varnish).
It is a lovely little kit to make, with enough PE to make it look that bit smarter but without going over the top as some PE sets can do.
Brush painted with a mixture of Revell aqua (Anthracite for the dark grey) and AK Interactive light ship grey. Weathering is home made rust (ground pastel chalk in Tamiya thinner) and Flory washes.
The aircraft are included in the kit, moulded in clear and go together beautifully

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Excellent work, I like they way you have broken the grey with weathering.
Seeing you work has made me hunt down and buy a soviet 1/320 HobbyBoss submarine on eBay.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Cheers Alan & John, it was an enjoyable build and now I've had a chance to give it a light matt varnish it has toned down the weathering a fraction
Best wishes

Well done. Great weathering.
I just finished reading Douglas Reeman's 'Strike from the Sea' that centres on a fictional RN use of a French submarine like Surcouf.

That'll be Soufriere if I remember correctly?dwomby wrote:Well done. Great weathering.

Apparently he based his fictional sub on Surcouf. I always enjoyed Reeman's books but most of all his ones involving submarines

Iggie, having been so impressed with your build I ordered a HobbyBoss Romeo class submarine and it turned up in the post today, after a quick look at the parts I can see me getting more of these detailed little kits.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Excellent! They are nice little kits, and make rewarding builds without being too fiddly. I hope you enjoy your Romeosplash wrote:Iggie, having been so impressed with your build I ordered a HobbyBoss Romeo class submarine and it turned up in the post today, after a quick look at the parts I can see me getting more of these detailed little kits.

Excellent build, nice to see this sub. Remember thinking of buying one myself, reading the history, but sold out before I could order.
