HMS Southampton 1941

HMS Southampton 1941

Post by splash »

This was a case of, if I had done the research first I probably would not have started this conversion, I made the mistake of thinking ships of the same class would only require minor changes and as the Southampton and Belfast were both City class Cruisers so surely it would be a simple conversation.

How wrong could I have been, the Southampton was substantial shorter and had a totally different upper deck and funnel layout.

I have totally enjoyed this build as it has taught me a lot about working in 1/600 scale and was good practice befor starting on a conversion to backdate HMS Warspite to her early look at Jutland.

You've certainly taken well to this ship modelling business!!. Good work. It's got me to buy an E-Class Destroyer to go with my HMS Exeter. Not 1/600 but still the inspiration is there.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Great work Alan. This model was almost in front of where I was regularly sitting over the SMW weekend and looks even better in the flesh.
