Very nice indeed. Are the shield decorations decals?

Thank you, and yes, the markings are those provided with the kit. I've no idea how accurate they are, but they do add a bit of color to the otherwise monochromatic model!

That's different, and very nice as well.
I can't see there was a man for every shield on these small vessels. They must have brought along extras.

I think you're right; 64 warriors on that small ship does sound like a lot! There are 64 shields and 32 oars on this kit... maybe each guy had a primary and a spare shield? I know I'd sure hate to have my shield split or otherwise lost and be without one while out raiding!

Excellent work! I made the same kit a few years back, and I really like the way you modeled the sail taken down, looks much better than my build, and like you I choose to not use the ors, ors without a crew looks stupid ( and it doesn't take so much place.
If you are interested I have a link to my build:

Thanks Ivan! I took a look at your build, and I think you did a very nice job with it. You were able to make that awful vacuformed sail look decent, and for that I salute you. I've never been able to pull that off - hence the furled sail on my own build.
I agree with you that oars look a little dopey when deployed without a crew. I don't know what the Norse did with these things when the boats were in port, so I just tied the oars together in bundles and left them out on deck.
No idea if this was accurate, but it seemed a shame not to use those very nicely molded parts!

Could you share with us your technique for painting the wood so realistically?
Regards, Roger.

Hi Roger, I used the same paints and techniques as on my NiƱa build, which I described here:
http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=11159.
Pretty simple, really!
