Revell British Vosper MTB 1/72

By way of a change, this was my most recent selection from the stash; I've always looked at it, and then the Airfix version and thought 'well, the Revell won't be up to much'
To be fair, it's a very nice kit that goes together well and looks the part overall. It has faults, which I'll eave to others more handy at rivet counting than I (although the mahoosive machine guns do look a bit rubbish ;-) ) but nothing that makes it look silly in my book.

I've taken a few liberties with the scheme although this in a small part is based on a little research which shows that not all MTBs had two-tone grey hulls etc.. I also decided that she was an early war example, whose captain didn't want to cover the deck planking in Admiralty Grey, hence the wooden deck

Looks OK to me ... the Revell offering is a reasonable kit and in some ways is better than the airfix one... one kit is an early, the other late war, and they both offer much scope for aftermarket and scratch improvement.

A little history if I may.
This isn't actually a British built Vosper. It really represents a version licence built in America to be sent to Russia under lend lease.
The real boat was used in the T.V. seies "McHales Navy" and the kit was intended to be released as a T.V. tie in, but the series was cancelled before the it could be released.
Having said that, some of these boats did end up in the Royal Navy. Over all, It's not a bad kit, released in the 1960's, it shows, but not in a bad way. Mind you, Iggie is right about those guns.

Very nice build, Iggie. I really like the grimy work-boat look of it you managed. You did a great job on the "wood" deck as well.

Very nice model, and I think the weathering looks spot on. Also, as propwash says, the decking looks great too.
