Skywave 1/700 scale USS Fletcher DD992 kit no. 51/SW-1600

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Skywave 1/700 scale USS Fletcher DD992 kit no. 51/SW-1600

Post by FAAMAN »

USS Fletcher DD992 1-700scale Skywave PitRoad kit no. 51/SW-1600.

Finished building 30Aug1993 with many small additions and corrections carried out to match photos I had of the real ship. The ship's SH-60A Seahawk was detailed with added scratch built items such as more scale rotor blades, Mk.46 ASW torpedoes & the MAD bird. I didn't have any USN Haze Grey paint so I used what I had, the whole model lightly weathered by dry brushing, there were obvious repainted areas on the real ship's hull I tried to replicate as well. I think it came out well and still looks the part. No PE was used as it wasn't widely available at the time and was too expensive.

Just to give an idea of the size of one of these "destroyers", here's a pic of Fletcher next to a Matchbox 1/700 scale HMS Exeter,

Very nice. I've always liked the Exeter, mainly as my Dad built me and my brother one when we were kids. I think it was the FROG one in 1/500. I have one of those but I didn't know there was a 1/700 one!. It would go better with my other ships!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

That destroyer looks fantastic. And looking at the Exeter, I am still kicking myself for not having yoinked one I saw at an IPMS show a couple of years ago. Excellent work here.

Very nice build. I especially like your details on the helicopter.

Another cracking build for such a small scale kit!
Best wishes
