Here are some pics of my Revell 1/720 scale USS Massachusetts model.

I first built Revell's Massachusetts as a child in 1969. I spent a little more time on it this time around, but it was still just as fun!

That is really nice ! I wish I had the attention span (and skill) to do one of those, I've tried.

That's an excellent build of an old kit, Very well done
Are the details you've used 1/700 or 1/720 scale?
Is this how she looks preserved?
Mine was built OOB back in the 1970's squiggle camo and all 8-)

Thanks Faaman. Yes, the details are 1/700 scale. The project actually began as a Hasegawa 1/700 South Dakota build (the dark grey parts) which I messed up and abandoned. Years later I took up the Revell Massachusetts and recycled some of the better quality leftover Hasegawa parts to improve details. The Hasegawa components are about 3% overscale for this 1/720 ship - but it's hard to tell in this small size!
Image

The model shows the ship as she appears today as a museum, which allowed me to put civilian figures aboard. It is a little hard to see, but in the picture below the figure on the left depicts a woman in a yellow dress.

Image

I even cut a couple of the photoetch brass figures down to include children - the figures next to the 16 inch turret represent my wife and young daughter who were with me when I visited the ship:

I'm the guy in the red shirt looking out over the railing.

Beautiful job! I love the tiny figures and extra details you added. A museum quality build for sure.

The added photos really show the effort and detail you put in.
It looks to me that the quad-40's are kit parts but enhanced with some photo-etch but more importantly detail painting - very nice !

Thanks, John! I thought those kit 40mm quads were pretty cool when I built the model as a kid, but they were actually pretty primitive. This time around I ended up replacing them entirely!

It's a very impressive build all the same 8-) 8-) And all your additions work very well indeed with the original kit
I find it funny that during builds (and rebuilds  ) of 1/720 scale models (of which I have a few   ) that some aftermarket 1/700 IM/PE/resin details look over scale, some under scale and some just right.

That looks great Tim, the extra detail really makes the model pop!

I also built this kit as a young'en and most probably built it in the time frame you built your first one.
