Heller 1/400 scale Le Redoutable (81075)

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Heller 1/400 scale Le Redoutable (81075)

Post by FAAMAN »

FNS Le Redoutable S611 1/400 scale Heller kit no.1075, built 17Apr1981 OOB.
This was France's first SSBN came into service in 1971 and is now a museum display!!!
Brush painted Humbrol Hu30, seemed the closest colour to the one ref photo I had at the time and clear varnished using Testor's rattle cans (details are painted using a mix of Airfix and Humbrol enamel). The model was ballasted to stop the model rolling over in it's original stand, the stand was modified to properly hold the model securely. Approx 17 years ago (2000) I weathered the model by dry brushing with reference to photos of other submarine classes I have. Fitted a new flag standard at the same time to replace one broken off.

Very nice. I know from experience that it's not a great kit (I'm being polite  ) but you've done a great job with it. 8-)

Thank you very much gents  you're not wrong about the quality of the kit Dazzled, but with a bit of work it comes out ok ;-) ;-)

Nice job Neil! Those old Heler 1/400 ships actually weren't bad at all for their day - but they did present challenges, for sure. Love that weathering!

Thank you for that Tim
They still are not bad, big enough but not too big, my stash has a fair few of 'em, not just Heller either, I've an Otaki Enterprise with a heap of extra aircraft for it, I'll do it during a Vietnam deployment.
