Trinity House Lightship - Frog (Novo, Revell etc Re-pop)

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Trinity House Lightship - Frog (Novo, Revell etc Re-pop)

Post by chrism »

Over on my workbench thread, I have just started working on this kit.

As it is an old and rarely seen kit, that can garner a lot of interest, I will share the build here as well.

The kit itself dates from 1964 when it was originally issued by Frog. Since then it has been reissued by many other manufacturers, including Revell, and given the atrocious instructions in the boxing I have, I was very grateful to find a copy of the Revell instructions to download.

The actual moulding is a product of its age, and consequently all parts are going to need a lot of clean up, or else in many cases, they will have to be faced with evergreen, or remade from evergreen and wire.

One of the first things I have done is to open up the portholes along the hull side.

I had been thinking about lighting up the main light, and then Alan (Splash) contacted me and offered to help, as he is getting involved with a few electronics projects,

We also considered the option of lighting up the lower part of the hull, and so far I have just experimented with a cheap string of LED christmas lights ...

The last two days I have spent a lot of time just cleaning up parts, and improving the kit parts with evergreen. Here is a simple before and after:

and an idea of what I am facing with other parts:

Peter Hall of Atlantic does an etch sheet which will improve some aspects of this kit a lot, and I do have that as well.
