I finally finished this after much trouble. Its still a bit rough and the base needs finalising, but i think it is an improvement on the basic kit
Finished as HMS Sirius (F40) in her original early 1970's fit

Nice job. I like this old Airfix kit. The Leander was a really classic British Frigate.
So many models, so little time.
Re: Airfix HMS Sirius
What's happening at the back end? It looks like a cut-price Fearless?

She had VDS verable depth sonar it was lowered out of the stern and towed on a cable.MerlinJones wrote:What's happening at the back end? It looks like a cut-price Fearless?

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: Airfix HMS Sirius
I served on the Sirius 72-74 and she did not have VDS, Her A/S weapon was the mortar mk10 controlled by sonar type 170.A few Leanders did have variable depth sonar, but not Sirius.

Excellent build, you've done a grand job with the PE at that small scale!
Best wishes

Must have missed this build first time round. Excellent use of etched parts to bring out the best in the kit.
