Airfix HMS Sirius

I finally finished this after much trouble. Its still a bit rough and the base needs finalising, but i think it is an improvement on the basic kit :)

Finished as HMS Sirius (F40) in her original early 1970's fit

Nice job. I like this old Airfix kit. The Leander was a really classic British Frigate.

What's happening at the back end? It looks like a cut-price Fearless?

She had VDS verable depth sonar it was lowered out of the stern and towed on a cable.

I served on the Sirius 72-74 and she did not have VDS, Her A/S weapon was the mortar mk10 controlled by sonar type 170.A few Leanders did have variable depth sonar, but not Sirius.

Must have missed this build first time round. Excellent use of etched parts to bring out the best in the kit. 8-)
