Endeavour Bark

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Nice one Ratch. You rig a sailing ship and you can rig anything.

Cheers Jeff, the shrouds were a pain, but I've two more with pre-formed shrouds in the pipeline

very nice and dramatic; you might just want to look at the union jack flag on the mainmast; it maybe should be blowing forward ?

Thanks guys, the Union flag on the main mast is actually stuck to cotton thread, so it points whichever way it wants (same with the red duster) :ha:
As I said Bruce, I had major problems with the stays/shrouds, so these were all put on at the end of my tether  As for colours, I'm still learning and without reliable references...
Thanks again ;-)

Actually, "stays" and "shrouds" are both "standing rigging" and would be probably be black as they were tarred for preservation. As they are not handled or run through blocks, do not tend to lose their tar. Stays are generally fore-aft running mast to deck; shrouds run from hull to mast.

All else, the "running rigging", would be a hemp/tan.

Question for Ratch: I've just started to build the Endeavour but am having problems with the shrouds and ratlines in that I can't get the buggers to stick together. I've used everything from PVA to clear adhesive but nothing seems to hold them. Have you any suggestions as to which glue would be best. Thank You.

I had terrible problems with them too
Here's a note I made at the time...
I then set about making the shrouds using the rigging tool and Mr. Models Thin Cyanoacrylate Adhesive. The first sets of shrouds to be made up were a messy affair; some threads had not adhered properly and needed re-gluing. The cyano has a tendency to stick threads to the jig, which can prove difficult to remove without damaging the shrouds. The actual rigging was less complicated

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm experimenting with a clear glue that my daughter got from Poundland. I've given them two coats so far and am going to blast them again before bed. So far it seems to be working. Only down side is that any excess that gets between the ratline and shround dries like a little window, but what the hell, if I put it on the top shelf no bugger will notice. :)

Have now gone over to using superglue to stick the ratlines to the shrouds. I've also found out that if you insert two paintbrushes or pencils along the top and bottom of the jig, it will tension the shrouds/ratlines and keep them raised off the jig so that they don't stick to the jig.
