Correct Colours for Skipjack Submarine

Post by jargonking »

I've just picked up the Revell reboxing of the Moebius Skipjack submarine and, as usual, Revell give mixing ratios for some of the main colours rather than an FS number.

Does anyone have information on the correct colour references?

I'm particularly interested in the colour used for the topside of USS Sculpin which Revell suggest as 80% Matt 56 Blue/ 20% Matt 9 Anthracite. Is there a colour I can use straight from the tin?

Did you ever find an answer to your question?

Blue and anthracite suggest a dark blue color. From my time in the boats, they were all black except red oxide bottoms (except my first boat which had a sickly pale green) and gray spotted with black for the periscope and other mast fairings. My time was a bit after the Sculpin, though.

In any case, the salt and sun really plays havoc on the colors.
Really nothing pithy to say.
