Revell 1/125 "Ocean Exploration Vessel"

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Revell 1/125 "Ocean Exploration Vessel"

Post by Taurusboy »

Picked this up yesterday in my usual
charity shop. It was sealed as brand
new and in excellent condition. I am
not a ship modeller so if anyone has
built this I would appreciate any tips
on what to watch out for. I'ts a big kit!!
Regards
Pete.

That's a find! Should make for an interesting build and good excuse to try something different and learn a few new skills.

Try listening to a lot of Calypso music. Brrrrm Tish. Thank you, I'm here all week.

It's a re-release of Jacque Coustaue's famous ship the Calypso, so lots of pictures on the web and Youtube.
Lots of history too, built as an American Minesweeper and passed on to the Royal Navy for use in the Mediterranean, sold off for use as a Ferry and then converted to the very famous Calypso, and finally being re-released by Revell as the totally fictitious Neptun.
During the 70's it was all over the T.V. every week, in "The Undersea World of Jacque Cousteau"
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Cousteau had a thing about gropers. The fish that is. :)

It is sad to see the Calypso in that sad of shape. I enjoyed the Society's programs and the science of it all. Was a member for several years until I felt the U.S. membership was being bashed due to our nation's percieved inability to follow the Society's vision. But they have done great work politics aside.

Good luck with this build, Pete. A very historical subject.

Hello Jeff -- you must remember those
programs well as I do. I looked forward
to each and every episode.although I
had no idea I was going to build that
vessel!
