Re: OT the Defiant virgin
Still plenty of time.
I must say I am enjoying this build. For its age the kit fits together really well.
I have said it now.

Re: OT the Defiant virgin
Now my Blitz build is over time to crack on with this lovely kit.
I have made a new rudder from plastic card:
I made it a bit big so I can sand it down. It is much easier to reduce something than build it up.
I have also built up the flaps as they were way too short.
I will get them attached tonight then out with the milliput to build up the tail fin.

Re: OT the Defiant virgin
I think it looks rather good with the enlarged tail definitely looking like a Defiant now.

I just did it by eye. I know it's not perfect but it is better than the Airfix effort.Dirkpitt289 wrote:How did you size you're new rudder?

Keep up the good work OT.
I was just going to give my rudder just a quick rub down to remove those big ribs but seeing your new rudder I think I might just as we'll copy you and scratch build a new one.

I would not advise copying me - I have no idea what I am doing!splash wrote:Keep up the good work OT.

Re: OT the Defiant virgin
Just a quick update:
Up on it's pins at last - beginning to take shape.
I need to reshape the the rudder & may build up the front of the tail - time will tell.
I want to get the wing lights sorted & a coat of paint on to see what it looks like.

Re: OT the Defiant virgin
I got a bit more work time on the Daffy last night due to a rained off England game.
I rounded off the tailplanes as the looked too pointed compaired to the drawings & photos I have.
I also cut out the wing lights by eye, not too accurate but I wanted to represent them as they are a quite prominent feature on the wing leading edge & Airfix missed them off. I had to insert a planking piece of evergreen plastic to cover the gap in the wing. The plan is for a dot of silver paint to represent the light then fit some clear sprue & sand to the shape of the wing. Thats the plan anyway. you know what happens to plans.
I reshaped the rudder too - much better now. I had intended to build up the front of the tail but decided that it was time to stop fiddling & get painting as the Whirlybird GB is now underway. So I applied a coat of Revell AquaColor Anthracite as a primer coat & to highlight any flaws.
Not to bad at all. One or two places need filler or a rub down but no dramas. So this evening get the lights sorted, lunchtime will be spent working on the turret - sub assemblies see. Always thinking.
