Some great work going on here Dirk.

I particularly like your fuselage fairing.

Great work, Dirk! I'm a bit of a late starter joining the thread...if you wanted you could probably also use the that tropical filter from the Vb - I have a picture at home of a gun Defiant fitted with one...like the way that you have exposed the turret by lowering the fairings - looks way meaner like that...

Thanks guys but after letting it sit I'm not happy with the shape of the lowered faring. I'm thinking of removing it and starting over. Time will tell....

Dirk, you're starting from a bad beginning, there's only so much you can do.

To my eye, your retracted fairing probably isn't wide enough, but that starts with the kit fairing and turret being so flawed.. You could do a lot on your fairing by just simulating the lengthwise stringers - that would get rid of the flat look. I'm not sure how much it would pay to try to widen it.

The bigger problem, which is why I (given my time issues) abandoned any thought of fixing the fairing, is that the kit guns are far too close together. They should be much closer to the edge of the turret than the center. I guess if you smash mold a turret you could cut the slots further apart and then it would really look cool.

After a few days away from the Defiant I wasn't happy with the look of the lowered rear faring. I feel I was on the right track but my execution and result was less then acceptable so it was back to the drawing board.

Using some of the collected documents I cut out a template

Time to turn my attention to the wings

Out of the box you can see the ailerons are too small and should extend a little farther past the wings trailing edge.

The final position. I like it a lot better. Now I just need to file it to get the proper shape

That "spacer" idea is what I intend to use also, although I think I'll be more conservative and use only one thickness.
Good work going on ....

I hear what your saying but I think it'll be fine once I reshape the aileron. I checked it with one and wasn't happy with the result felt it needed a little more.
