Our 3rd helicopter GB .... odd for a Forum that favors airplanes that actually fly and not those gangly objects that must instead be flown ....

Splashes pictures in Tom's build thread make me want to build one... :)

Italeri for a Mk5 or Mk3

Revell for a Mk3

Matchbox for Mk5

Frog/nova for a Mk1

Italeri is the best of the bunch IMHO

Just spent some time going over the build threads. Really great work going on here. Well done, folks.

Sorry, lost track of this due to a family bereavement. What is the closing date?

EDIT - Found it 30 Nov so should have just about time for it between new job and trip to Ireland!

If I have the time I'll enter a wargames model of a small helicopter (Airfix Scout, Gazelle or MBB).

Is it too late to sign up?

Very sorry to hear of your bereavement Dadlamassu and I have no objections to you entering late.

Until 30th November Did and you're already up and running so why not a third model? That is a classic and one I was looking for to build for this gig but I left it until the last minute and couldn't find one!

Side note, I mentioned to a chap on the Helo SIG table at SMW that we were having a Helo GB and a seemed to have an abundance of Apaches he told me that the Army pilots had really wanted the older Cobra presumably because it's a bit sportier and more reliable.

But an older design, reaching the end of it's life cycle... :)

We may have an abundance of Apaches, but we have a serious shortage of good Apache kits in 1/72! ;-)

Yes, the Airfix/Italeri effort certainly educates in the use of filler and plastic card

Helo SIG Table? was there? oops, I missed that one during my travels around Telford. Not good for someone who's supposed to be the leader of a helicopter GB

We're close to the official finish now and two builds in particular, Splash's and OT's are very close to the end by the looks. Therefore I have suggested to them that I hang fire until Sunday before finally seeking to have the build wrapped up. There will be no further extension beyond that as this has been a long build after all, but I'm not a JMN and if it helps these two members finish up and results in two more models in the gallery then it's an executive decision well taken as far as I'm concerned. I hope that's in order as I've seen GBs similarly extended before but if there are any strong objections then please PM me.

An extension to 2 December is not a problem -- this has been a productive GB and both splash & OT are close enough ....

Many thanks John. So we are officially on an extension until Sunday 2nd December then. SAROwl also appears to be on the finishing straight so with a bit of luck we'll have three more models in the finisher's gallery. Before anyone asks, no, I am not including my own build in the extension. Firstly I doubt I could finish it by Sunday in any event as there is a lot to do and I won't get the chance to do any modelling before the weekend and secondly I don't want others accusing me of granting an extension for my own benefit

Thanks Shaun for running the GB, I have picked up lots of good hints from all the scratch building that being going on.

Well done to everyone who has taken part or given support, this has been a really enjoyable GB, to watch and to take part.

It's been a pleasure Splash and I'm glad you enjoyed it and, just as important, got something out of it regarding your modelling techniques. The extension ends at midnight GMT and we have Jessl, who of course is a few hours behind GMT but appears to be on the home stretch and OT who's gone quiet but I hope he manages to finish up. I'll do a GBL summing up posting including builders and finishers stats tomorrow and then I'll ask JRatz to wrap it up shortly thereafter.

Looks like we're finished up now with the last of the models in, so the extension was worthwhile. Just waiting for the glamour shots for the gallery from Jessl and OT. Great stuff  I'll do a GBL posting this evening.
