Jim's Italeri AH-64 Sea Apache and a Saraf *Finished*
Well don't accuse me of not following a crowd, I happen to have in "The stash"...
Same as Andrew's except I got stiffed on the paint brush
Now a bog standard Apache doesn't spin my wheels though, so I dimly remembered seeing something about a Sea Apache scheme, so Google is my friend (in a caring sharing way, not a come and see my rubbings kind of way) and I find this site: http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng ... apache.php, ore than one proposed version now I'm in stuck, as my indecision gene has kicked in what proposed version to do??
So fellow UAMF'rs please help me out here, have your say, your choices are:
First Proposal:
Minimal mods, new mast radar dome, move the rear tail wheel, sidewinders and harpoons.
Third Proposal:
Loose the sponsons, deeper belly, mod to the upper fuselage, radar nose, wheels on the wing ends ala Harrier outriggers...
Only these two choices as I don't like the Second proposal.
Poll runs for four days, and I'll have a crack at which ever is picked.
Thanks
Jim

Re: Jim's Italeri AH-64D Longbow - Help! which Sea Apache
Third proposal Jim. That would be more of a challenge to you. I've seen what you can do with plastic, so shouldn't be too hard to do for your skills.

So, you're also joining the archery section of this GB then Jim
Although it will be more work (and that's not the reason for my suggestion!) I prefer Proposal 3. If you're going to go different on the Apache theme, then that certainly looks different! Modifying the kit to look like that probably won't be easy though.....
Pity about getting stiffed on the paint brush - Andrew's issue could be possibly quite rare, maybe for the North American market as the kit in my LMS made no mention of a freebie brush on the box that I noticed. He'll be crowing more to us now about collector's items

I'd like to see the third proposal built up Jim. Although it looks quite ambitious!
Cheers

PS Did I mention the paintbrush?

I have to go with the third also. Really different.

I too vote for #3 although it will be hardest to do. The relocation of the main undercarriage to give wider track seems logical to me for a seaborne helo.

I vote third as its so much more than just a paint job and minor tweaks.
I see the tail wheel retracts, do the main u/c retract as well?

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Yep they retract rearwards into the fairings on the end of the stub wings, like the Harrier outriggers.splash wrote:I see the tail wheel retracts, do the main u/c retract as well?
I have not, thanks for that link Splash, some bigger sized concept art, brilliant.splash wrote:Have you seen this link? http://s11.invisionfree.com/shipbucket/ar/t1040.htm

Unfortunately that might not be possible as it is a highly prized collector's item and is now kept in a safe in a secret location "somewhere in Canada"Jagewa wrote:

Number 3 is looking like the team's choice Jim - quite a challenge!

It really depends what you feel up for. Though if you are only going to do one of them 3 is the way to go.

Probably, but I wouldn't have known it was in there if I hadn't opened the box...Brews wrote:I wonder if its value is diminished now that the box is open, though ...AndrewR wrote:Lend you a genuine collectors item? I think not...Jagewa wrote:

Anyway, the value will drop faster than the Greek stock market when I actually use the brush!

You could however prove to potential purchasers that the brush has been used by the Master Modeller AndrewR in the famous Whirlybirds GB on UAMF lead by the incomparable ShaunW - how could that fail to get the price up?AndrewR wrote:

Well, when you put it like that...ShaunW wrote:You could however prove to potential purchasers that the brush has been used by the Master Modeller AndrewR in the famous Whirlybirds GB on UAMF lead by the incomparable ShaunW - how could that fail to get the price up?AndrewR wrote:

I just had a nasty thought
With all these Apaches, does that make us the cowboys?
cheers

Re: Jim's Italeri AH-64D Longbow - Help! which Sea Apache
Way hay, thanks very much for looking and voting guys, a funky third proposal Sea Apache it is then.
Found some sidewinders and rails in the spares, got some sprue the right diameter to scratch some Harpoons, had a look at the fuselages, I think I'll put some plastic walls int he cockpit to hold it together, as removing the sponsons, would not leave much to hold the cockpit area together.
Time to cut plastic...
