Jeff the Snake Charmer***finished***
Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
Laying the airframe aside I finished the surgery on the canopy. Again slow and careful knife work did the trick. A little clean up on the edges is still needed.
Still amazes me why the canopy was moulded this way but now it does not matter.

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
Damn, that bit of microsurgery took.. well, you'll likely be using them as a nose weight if you take my meaning!!
Beautifully done.

A very neat job on the cutting Jeff, I'm still keeping mine closed though as I'm not as neat as you...

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
This kit was produced by Monogram in the mid to late 80's. It matches up with the Verlinden drawing in his Close up series right on except for the blade tips being to narrow. One of Monograms best from that era and the fit is rather nice. Why can't we have the G model legacy Cobra and one of the most important in the series.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?
Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
The Cobra is a tail sitter so to counteract that, I build a box out of styrene and loaded it up with b-b shot. Two part epoxy glue will secure the load.
Now for a test fit to confirm the obvious.
It is time to start slapping it all together.
Thanks for looking and the comment eveybody.

That's a fair old load of BB's Jeff, but it seems to have done the trick.

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
Thanks Justin. Fuselage halves are now stuck together. Seams gone over with my usual use of Tamiya Surface Primer as an extra measure. Gun section together now and partially painted.
@Titan, if you are reading. The canopy is a little short lengthwise. I plan on making a solid joint on the rear end and put a small piece of square stock in the front to blend in. I am a ways off from that point yet but will post a piccie when I get there. Just thinking out loud.

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
I presume this problem lies with the manufacture of the kit then Jeff. Your proposed solution seems sound enough to me.jssel wrote:

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
Yeah, something in the moulding no doubt. In re-reading my comment I noticed it sound have been a shout out to Mark (Titan). Due to the problem area being straight edges, clean up should be a breeze.
All is progressing very well and my Desert Storm Tan is being shaken and stirred in preparation for the next phase.

Re: Jeff the Snake Charmer
Thanks Jeff, I did a test fit after reading your comment about the canopy and found mine to be the same so using card stock as a filler would be the way to go.
Hopefully I should be able to resume my build tomorrow and once the mesh is inserted get the fuselage halves glued together.

Top quality build Jeff. Have to re-enforce what others have said about the neatly cut canopies .
Very impressive.
