mightymikeD's KASKR-2 ***IS FINISH!***
It might not, strictly speaking, be a helicopter but it's got a big whirling thing on top.. an Amodel KASKR-2 Autogyro in 1/72
Poor workmanship, lousy detail, bad execution: and that's just me.

pics of sprues etc to follow..

Re: mightymikeD's KASKR-2
The deed is done.. just been down to the LHS to pick up the kit.
and I "Got the Sprues"..
Basically, the first two sprues are the same as the KASKR-1 kit. The third has the improved engine, prop, wings and skis added between the two prototypes.
No decals provided with the kit and the paint scheme is rather similar to the KASKR-1, with the difference of Aluminium for the cowling rather than black. This may lead me to get imaginative with the colour scheme ..
It's the same limited-run stuff: huge gates, weak plastic and flash galore.. as was expected. Of to work, so time for a bath for these sprues and I'll make a start later

Nice to see they still had the kit in Mike. It'll be good to see an autogyrothingy amongst all the helos.

I don't think it was going anywhere fast..Witek in the LHS isn't even sure how or where he got them from..
and
I think I've decided to do it in red and silver, just for the heck of it..

yup.. I think I win the (non) prize for most ancient whirlybird..It'll be good to see an autogyrothingy amongst all the helos

Primed everything.. it's basically the sprue shots in another shade of grey so no photo.. Think I might scratchbuild some cockpit detail too.. the KASKR-1 build showed me that it allows quite a good view of the interior..

Construction beginning in earnest now (who's Ernest?)
Doing some sub assembly on the undercart and getting the fuselage together.. and sanding, scraping, sanding, filling, scraping and swearing quite a lot..
best positioning of sprue gates EVER!

Ernest is doing fine work, I think I'll have to hire him
What a neat subject, those blades look leaf like.
Cheers

No reason to think they weren't based on a sycamore seed.

They do, don't they.. although sycamore seeds might be stronger..JamesPerrin wrote:Jagewa wrote:What a neat subject, those blades look leaf like.

Heh. I've had a couple of chaotic days at work that have put a crimp in my time, plus I'm wrapping up the KASKR-1... but it's progressing.

Neither did I but I'm glad someone did. It might not have the appeal to many as something like a Cobra but I think that nevertheless the autogyro is a worthwhile modelling subject, so good on you Mike for bringing one along.Brews wrote: I did not even THINK "autogyro" when I was picking my kit to build.......

Thanks, guys.. actual credit has to go to Splash for putting the idea in my head that an Autogyro would qualify for a Helicopter GB.. and then, when Shaun responded, I decided "why the heck not" and got the second AModel kit from the LHS. At the time the KASKR-1 was giving me no end of grief and I was seriously doubting if I could be bothered with the KASKR-2. But now, after a huge amount of work, the KASKR-1 is all over bar the rigging (Aviation Thread) and I'm really pleased with it. Hopefully I'll be able to apply all the hard lessons learned in its construction to make the KASKR-2 a lot more painless..
As for the Cobra, I've never actually built a helicopter before.. so this is a fun GB for me.
Some progress photos of the KASKR-2 shortly.. It looks like a plane and has a coat of red paint drying on it.

Re: mightymikeD's KASKR-2
KASKR-1 finished..
KASKR-2 looks like this right now..
The fit on the fuselage was terrible, even worse than the KASKR-1, and required a whole lot of filling. The tricky thing, when sanding down filler on plastic this rubbish, is to know when to stop..

Re: mightymikeD's KASKR-2
All part of the challenge Mike! this is coming together nicely though. It's very reminiscent of a biplane, I'm thinking something like an AVRO 504 fuselage.
