mmD's Super Cobra **Finished**
While making 1930's Soviet Autogyros from the 'Kits That Time Forgot' is always tons o' fun, sometimes it's nice to step forward to modernity and kits that don't fight you every step of the way.
So, while waiting for various rotors, skis and scratchbuilt breakage replacements to dry, I'm adding a Revell AH-1W Super Cobra to the mix.. who says men can't multitask (although if we end up with rocket launchers on the KASKR-2 I'll retract that statement)

Re: mmD's Super Cobra
That looks to be a nice enough kit Mike. Are you not going for the paint schemes out of the box then? are there alternate decals on the horizon?
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: mmD's Super Cobra
I had a look around the interwebs but I reckon I'll go with the first (HMT-169) camo scheme OOTB.. it looks the best.
It's a nice kit, alright. Lots of detail.

Re: mmD's Super Cobra
The Cobra is coming together.. cockpit done.. now trying to decide on pilots or seatbelts (most likely belts) and basic fuselage assembled. Bit of filling required but otherwise everything is going together right nice.
I have, however, made the schoolboy error of forgetting to put in a nose weight so this may have to go on a stand when it's done!

Thanks, mate.. It's a very nice kit to build so far.. and like slipping into a warm bath compared to the AModels!

Good work so far, this is coming together nicely. A bit of filling and sanding never did anybody any harm

Re: mmD's Super Cobra
Coming together well Mike, you're doing a great job - the Cobra is a mean looking 'copter. Shame about tail sitting though. If you can't live with it options wise I can think of (a) crack open the fuselage and bung in some weight - not for the faint hearted, (b) put it on a stand in flying pose with crew figures in the cockpit if you've got any, (c) glue it to a small display base in a ground pose or (d) make a tail prop out of clear acrylic tubing - my least favourite after option (a) it has to be said.

Going great guns, looking forward to the finished scheme on this one.

Maskol with a "Best Before" of December 1983, too. See the "Are You Local" thread for details!I thought it was a green and purple scheme, then I realised it was maskol
Should finish this weekend.. although that depends on a certain secret side project for it..

Re: mmD's Super Cobra **FInished**
and it's done
Not too horrible for a first attempt at a whirlybird.. although the number of times I knocked bits off until I had my grasp points sorted out!
Look Ma, no tail sitting, thanks to a pair of undernourished Revell NATO pilots
mean looking little sod, isn't it?
now back to rigging the KASKR-2
