The enlarged tailplanes have been made from plastic card and the wings have been glued to the fuselage.

this done the remaining parts to complete the airframe have now been attached, the model is now ready for primer.
The underwing tanks fitted to these aircraft were smaller than those with the kit but they are very similar to P-51 tanks so a pair of these have been found in the spares box and fitted.

Had a problem with the paint for this model- I now realise I cannot mix the correct colour so this model will be put to one side until next week when I next visit an LMS. It is now in primer and is waiting for the paint to finish it, although the later scheme with orange wingtips and rudder does appeal more to me and the aircraft on the decal sheet was written off before this was introduced so may be tempted to change the civil registration to the replacement DLB trainer, D-CACA.

Whilst this kit rests I will make a start on the next FB.11 which will be the ever popular 'Hoagy' Carmichael aircraft, WJ232 using a combination of Airfix and Trumpeter decals. Construction will start on Friday.

Great builds and at a cracking pace too.

What's the story on this one needing enlarged tailplanes, pls?

The T-20 had enlarged tailplanes to increase stability presumably due to a shift in the CG caused by the rear cockpit.

Did you do them on the T61 too? I can't tell.

David,
As I partially explained in my post on the 14th and should have done so properly, the T-61 came first as part of the Export Fury deal and the T-20 was different being designed for the Royal Navy much later after they had evaluated the first 4 T-61s to be built as potential RN trainers- My T-61 used standard kit tailplanes on the assumption that the need for extended tailplanes would not then be known- I could be wrong and may need to extend them at a later date if the T-61 tailplanes too turn out to have been of extended span when the export trainers were delivered.

This is the cockpit and fuselage of kit number 5 assembled with the rear decking corrected as per the other PM fighter, the exhausts have also been corrected and the assembly is here shown with the pre-assembled wing ready to be joined together.

The wingroot joints have been cleaned up and the cowling is now in place, the next step will be to separate the elevators from the tailplanes before fitting and then glue them in the down position and assemble them both to the model before priming for paint.

Some fantastic looking kits there David, and coming along at quite a pace!

I particularly like the spinner on the Canadian one.

Everyone, thanks for all your comments.
The model has now been primed and the Sky colour has been applied, masking and grey comes next followed by varnish and decals.
