Exactly what I was thinking.Brickie wrote:At least if no-one really knows what colour they were painted, you can't be too wrong...
Whilst I like the camo scheme I am not sure it was ever applied to more than one aircraft - 541.
This is from the Latin American air wars book:
Here is a picture of 542 which I am building. It shows no sign of a camo pattern - although I have no idea when it was taken.
I know that the Cuban Fury's (a great name for a band ) were delivered in high speed silver with black anti-dazzle panel & yellow cowl & prop hubs like this:
Very simillar to the Cuban P-47's. I believe they Fury's were being re-painted at the time of the invasion.
A team from Hawker were helping the FAR get the planes air worthy. I have settled on this scheme:
I looks a bit bland so I will give it a yellow cowl & hub. Coz I can.

I've gone Olive Green all over (better get to a doctor!) and going to use Olive Drab for the camo stripes.
one of the photos of Carrera's aircraft suggested a mottled camo... until I realised it was just deterioration of the actual photo'

my Blackbirdmodels Bay Of Pigs decals turned up yesterday (and very nice they are, too)
In the attached painting guide they mention the uncertainty of the scheme and also suggest that the camo wraps around the underside (and that the spinner is blue)
think I'll stick with what i've got

Re: OT's Cuban Fury
I think the data on the Cuban Fury's is so confused you can get away with any scheme with a green base colour.mightymikeD wrote: my Blackbirdmodels Bay Of Pigs decals turned up yesterday (and very nice they are, too)

I managed to get an hour or so on this at the weekend.
The kit is primed all over with grey car primer and the undersides are painted light blue. I used a Tamiya jar - can't remember the number but it is a light grey\blue that I use for jet cockpits.
I have started to mask it off so I can get the top sides sprayed green.
I also applied the decals to the rudder - they are too small. More on this later.

Re: OT's Cuban Fury
Here is the offending rudder:
I have painted the rudder white so as to best show off the decal & the blasted thing is too small.
I will now have to source some blue paint to match & touch it up.

Re: OT's Cuban Fury
I have made some progress on the Cuban Sea Fury between work & domestic chores but not much spare time of late.
I have addressed the small decal issue on the tail but have not attached it yet.
Here she is with the nose cowling, prop hub & tail attached but not glued:
There is a little touch up required but I hope to get that done tonight. Then on with Klear & decals.
Still need to work on the prop blades & U\C, also not started the rockets.

H25 might be a good bet. H104 will be too dark a blue.Old_Tonto wrote:...I will now have to source some blue paint to match & touch it up.

Cheers Bud - I have settled on doing 542. I got the decals on last night and a coat of future this morning.jssel wrote:Wow, I love that 541 bird. Yummy. If i do another sometime...........

So when I get home just need to add the prop, U\C doors & unmask the canopy. I will fit the rockets if I have time.

That is a nifty rudder marking, worth the effort you have put into it ....
