Paul Bradley's Postwar Auxiliary **FINISHED**

Post by PaulBradley »

I'm in with a 601 Squadron kite from 1949, courtesy of Freightdog Models' Weekend Warriors decal sheet.

It'll be OOB, overall High Speed Silver finish. Just what I need at the moment to ease back into the hobby - a simple build with a one-colour scheme!

Here's the boxart:

...and the decals I'll be using:

I bought the sheet because of the Meteor and Mossie options; the Spit option is most fortuitous, as the kit decals are carp...

I have that sheet too - but for the Meteor, Harvard and Spitfire (I only make things with D Type or later roundels). The Heller kits is a nice simple and pretty decent kit too. I built one years ago but lost it so there's another in the stash now.

First step was to paint the interior. No tmuch can be seen through the canopy when it is closed (which is what I intend!), so the painting is not exact:

Next up was a quick rescribe and sanding down of the major airframe parts:

Assembling and affixing the interior took all of 5 minutes!

And within no time, I had a complete airframe:

A little filler was added at the wing roots and at the rear of the underside wing/fuselage join, plus a slight building up of the upper cowling to better match the Airfix Mk.IX kit. A little additional work is needed on the filler, then I'll blend it in. Then it'll be ready for a coat of Testors Metalizer Aluminum, which is a good math for HSS.

Super stuff Paul, good to see you building, and posting again.

I'm liking the fact these seem to fall together, is this the first shake n' bake kit?

I'm cribbing from your cockpit painting, very clever painting on the seat frame and floor boards..

Cheers, Jim. It's hardly accurate, but it will give the right impression when the canopy is glued in place - and that's all I require at this time. ;-)

Quick update, sans pictures courtesy of photobucket......

Primed yesterday and corrected some minor seam issues. Got the HSS coat on today and am waiting for it to set before adding the fiddly bits.
