Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI *** Late Finisher ***
I will be attempting to finish mine in the time allowed as TB675 of 74 Squadron as per the
quite nice decal sheet from Xtradecal.
A limited re-scribe of the raised details is planned along with some detailing of the cockpit with
whatever spare bits I have knocking about.
Cheers

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI
Not much progress to report so far but here goes
First up I re-scribed the raised panel lines on the main airframe(a first for me) and it turned out ok,
as the kit plastic is black it is not too clear to see but it is done
Next I started on the cockpit contents which are from an old photo etch set I had lying around.
The access door is made up of 4 parts so far with a couple of bits still to be added, likewise with the instrument panel.
The seat still has the mounting hardware, armour and belts to be added so I hope to have updates tomorrow.
Finally a shot of the proposed scheme and the decals for same.
Thanks for looking

That's the sort of decal sheet that begs you to buy more kits, just to use 'em all up!

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI
There has not been a huge amount of progress but I have done some detailing on the
cockpit using some etched brass and scrap plastic.
Still have to add some details for the rudder control mechanism which I plan to finish tomorrow.
once that is done I will be painting the interior and getting on with assembly.
Cheers

Really nice work on the office. Certainly an area of the kit that could do with improving.

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI
Bit of a quick update of the progress from the last week or so.
First up is the cockpit just before I buttoned up the fuselage, the seat still be added at final assembly.
main airframe assembled, fit was quite good with only the wing roots needing a touch of
zap-a-gap and a swipe of wet & dry.
... and ready for a blast of Halfords best.
The primer showed up a couple of spots which required attention, mostly where I had gone a little astray
while re-scribing, the black plastic did not show them up so well be fore priming.
A coat of Tamiya Medium Sea Gray on the underside.....
...followed with a Tamiya Ocean Gray & Dark Green on the upper surfaces.
I should get a coat or two of klear on tomorrow morning with decals and final assembly tomorrow evening.
It is going to right to the limit on this one but I hope to finish before the deadline.
Cheers

I'm a big fan of Tamiya paints too and, in this case, they really enhance some excellent modelling

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI
I have to admit that I have previously not been a big fan of acrylics but I picked up the
Tamiya RAF ones and am very impressed with ease of use and the low odour, a big positive over
oil based alternatives.

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI
Regret to inform that I did not finish before the deadline but this is the job so far...
The seat has gone AWOL since yesterday so there cockpit is a bit empty, still have to do a wash/weathering, nav lights, wing walkway markings, gun sight & the red doped patches over the outer wing guns.
Overall I am happy with the way she turned out, especially the re-scribing(first go at a full a/c).
Cheers

Beautiful job so far.
I can save you one job though: the XVI had 2 .5" machine guns in the inner cannon bay (ie where the 'stubs' project from the leading edge) and 2 20mm cannon in the outer cannon bay. There were no machine guns in the outer bays, so you need no red doped patches over the outer wing guns as they did not exist!

Martin

Re: Murfv's Tiger Squadron XVI *** Late Finisher ***
Martin,
thanks for the heads up re the lack of outer wing mg's, one less job to worry about.
Any way, I am have now found the missing seat and fitted it, given her a wash and finished a couple of other bits.
So with the exception of the seat harness, I am calling this one done.
A couple of quick pics(will try to get a few better ones later this week).
A big thank you to OT for moderating the GB and for the necessary gentle reminders to get my act together and
get this far.
Also a big thank you to Martin R who was the source of my XVI to start with, cheers
Hope you like her.
