Fairly cracking along here....
The relative smoothness of the engine nacelles belies the amount of sanding I had to undertake to get to this point...

Re: Paul's Widgeon
Paul you are a better man than me, I started my Widgeon and after only one hour gave up when the carpet monster eat one of the engines. I feel the kit is so bad I'm just going to let him have it and call it a day and find something else to build.

Re: Paul's Widgeon
Pure pig-headedness now! Actually, I think the worst is done. I trimmed up the fit between the fuselage and wings and it should glue together really well. The U/C shoul dbe fun, but we'll take that as it comes...
I spent a lot of time at the bench yesterday, so today was a much quieter day - nothing of note done.

Yes, I did, but thanks anyway! It is a very useful resource for all Grumman flying boats.

Yes and no. Yes, because it shows me what it should look like and no, because it shows me what the Airfix bits should look like.....
Cheers, though!

Re: Paul's Widgeon
A small update. Glued the wings on tonight - not the best of fits, but adequate. I'll need to clean up both the front and back seams on the top, and the sides. I used some Tamiya tape to block off the insides of the windows - this will prevent overspray into the cabin. Once the painting is done, I'll pull it out through the windows before using some Micro Krystal Klear to glaze the openings.

Re: Paul's Widgeon
Had not had much time for this recently, but did get a lot done yesterday with my unexpected day off - namely, painting and decalling!
Decals behaved surprisingly well, as I've had mixed results with the decals in 'new' Airfix kit.
As I'll be away from next Saturday until the New Year, I'm looking to get this done tomorrow. Jus tneed to figure out the U/C and stick on the floats and she's basically done as far as I'm concerned.

Darn, clearly I didn't do a good job at getting rid of the bite marks....

Re: Paul's Widgeon
Worked on the U/C today as well as the props and 'exhausts. All of them flash-ridden and needed quite a bit of work to get them halfway presentable - here are the props, before (r) and after (l):
Nearly there - just need to glue the fiddly bits on and some light weathering.
I also need to spray a dull coat of varnish, but that won't happen until tomorrow - 14 inches of snow so far and counting, but it is supposed to be clear tomorrow.

Re: Paul's Widgeon
Hmm might not buy one for the kids this xmas.... though I see they might have to charge extra for this kit, to cover all that extra plastic that's supplied
Re: Paul's Widgeon
Looks good although I am wondering how much i want to build mine now!
Re: Paul's Widgeon
Wow, those props look like fun! You're nearly there though...
