Just to be sure I understand.
You covered the hull in Tamiya Tape.
You traced on the pattern.
You then carefully cut it out with a hobby knife.

Just how did you avoid carving little lines into the underlying paint and the hull itself ? You must have a more delicate touch than I do !

Flipping heck.. that's one hell of job.. how many man hours? how much weeping and wailing?

Looking mighty fine, though

Nice bit of masking work there - sure I used to a 'lucky' shirt with a pattern like that!

John, unfortunately I haven't avoided cutting into the paint beneath but the cuts are fairly shallow and I'm relying on the fact that they're at the borders between colours to prevent them showing. Also, I managed to cut accurately, so no runaway blade lines at least.

MMD, I spent most of yesterday working on this so a solid chunk of man hours.....more than I care to think about.

I only used a template for the side of the hull. From that I completed the pattern above and below by drawing freehand from the painting diagrams and matching up to the sides.

I've been offline for a few days but still plugging away. Hull patterning is done and I'm pretty pleased with it.

Image

Two aaaaaaaaargh moments. The hull fell off the handling stick while spraying and knocked loose one seat and separated the top panel
Fixe though.
Second moment was discovering I had put the wrong rounded on the upper side of the wing. :boom:

By the time I realised, micro sol was already on and it couldn't be moved. Oh we'll. curse of the FBGB strikes again!

Pretty grim about my chances of finishing in time but I'll do my best.

what ever happens you've made an excellent go at a tricky kit with and a very challenging paint scheme.

Thanks James. I really am very very disappointed that I didn't manage to complete this within the GB time frame, especially when John went to the trouble of sending me the canopy. Just too ambitious a choice of kit and I ended up with far less time available than I anticipated :frown:
Having little ones who need to be cared for and entertained throughout the holidays will do that.

It's just possible I may have got it done over this weekend by pulling all nighters but I didn't think that was a great idea and I probably would have ended up with the mother of all AAAAAAARGHs in my rush and lack of concentration.

I will keep putting in the hours on it this week and see if I can get it done by the weekend.

No harm, no foul. Considering the amount of tricky work you've got ahead much better to not rush it. It's going to look fantastic anyway..

As you say, probably a bit ambitious, but nevertheless, you've made a good fist of it and it'll look great when you complete it!
